2008 Laws of Balance & Harmony & Personal Success
The Law of Creation:
Whatever we think about and focus upon grows into reality. We create the situations we think about throughout the day. If you think you will succeed, you will. If you think you will fail, you will. If you think you are old, others will perceive you that way. The same is true for youthfulness.
The Law of Attraction:
We attract people, places, things and circumstances into our lives in direct proportion to our wants, needs and desires. People and situations come into our lives not by accident, but by our creation of the need.
The Law of Controlling Our Own Lives:
If we are not specifically controlling our own lives and creating the circumstances necessary to meet our desires, we become instruments used by others to meet their missions.
The Law of Relaxation:
With physical laws, the harder we work, the more we accomplished. With mental laws, the more we relax, believe, and expect to succeed with ease and confidence, the better the results.
The Law of Reciprocity:
Whatever we see in the universe sees us! Whatever attitude, feelings, thoughts and desires we put out, regardless if they are negative or positive, return to us.
The Law of the Universe (Karma):
Like the law of reciprocity, which deals with mental factors, the law of karma deals with physical manifestations. This law is what may affect our personal belongings, physical health and financial status. This law works negatively or positively, depending upon what we have put out to the universe.
The Law of Return:
Our rewards in life are in direct harmony with the value of our products, services or ideas.
The Law of Substitution:
Consciously substitute all negative thoughts with positive ones immediately upon experiencing the negative thought. We can only experience one thought at any given time, therefore by substituting a positive for a negative, only positive will reach the subconscious.
The Law of Belief:
Whatever we believe with strong feelings becomes our reality. We are not limited by what we think we can do but by what we think we can't. Self-limitations are not based upon reality, but are based on negative beliefs.
The Law of Present-Time-Consciousness:
It is imperative that we live in the present, as opposed to "tomorrow" or in the past. Preparing for tomorrow with righteous living and positive thoughts prepares us for what we will manifest; however, it is what we do today, right now (present-time-consciousness) which is important to achieve the rewards of life.
The Law of Personal Growth:
To become a successful practitioner, businessperson, parent, athlete, etc., become, act and feel as if you are already successful. The human spirit will act upon what it is given.
The Law of Expectation:
We must know what it is we want to accomplish or obtain before the universe can manifest our desires.
The Law of Clarity:
The clarity of our mind and thoughts is in direct proportion to the physical clutter in our lives. Take a look around you!
The Law of Cause and Effect:
Within universal law, our thoughts are the cause; the conditions, either good or bad, are the effects. The outcome is totally dependent on our creation of thought.
The Law of Perseverance:
People who succeed never stop trying. People who stop trying never succeed.
The Law of Forgiveness:
Forgiving all others is a necessary and effective purgative for a successful life. The law doesn't demand that we like other persons or situations, just that we forgive them and let go of the mental chains that entrap us. Lao Tzu observed that "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." Best wishes on your life journey; you've taken the first step!
You will have a great year in 2008!
All of my best to you,
Dr. T

Take Control of Your Body and Take Control of Your Life
By Dr. Tim Ramirez
We have long believed that how we think determines who we are. “Cogito, ergo sum”, a very famous quote by Rene Descartes, says it all: “I think therefore I am”. How and what I think determines my reality. In essence, my mindset determines my life, my physicality, my being.
If we are to subscribe to this belief in the realm of health and fitness, we should be able to think ourselves fit, lean, and healthy.
There is true significant value to what Descartes proclaims: If we give ourselves positive reinforcement, focus on the goal not the obstacle, and if we believe in ourselves without a doubt, chances are much higher that we will, in fact, become what we think. I myself subscribe to these sentiments, however, we can also consider it another way, look at it from another perspective. The Dr. Tim perspective!
Consider what would happen if we flipped the belief that my mindset determines my physicality (I think therefore I am), and say, instead: My physicality determines my mindset.
It is possible to find our well being through the portal of our physicality. In other words, the process of putting ourselves in optimal shape physically will shift our mental mind set, and from there, we will find ourselves transforming not only our bodies, but our lives.
The very process of getting fit makes us feel good, makes us see things in our lives differently, makes us function better, makes us more secure. As we develop our physical strength, we begin to develop a greater sense of security, we become more confident, respect ourselves more, thus making better choices/decisions in our lives. What begins to happen with becoming increasingly fit, is that we realize that our optimum physicality, through physical fitness and healthy eating, becomes the portal through which we improve our thinking, and it becomes what we constantly want to strive for. It becomes a lifestyle, a primary focus, and as a result, determines the quality of our lives.
I would certainly not presume to challenge or dispute the logic of Cogito Ergo Sum, but I would like to take it one step further. If the statement, “I think therefore I am” is true, then the statement of “I am therefore I think” is valid. Arguably, for some people, I know this is not a universal truth, I can identify on a daily basis several people that “are” and are not “thinking”- I drive on the same freeways you do, we can all relate to what I am talking about! All kidding aside, I am here to tell you that your physicality is intimately related to your quality and level of your thought.
We can evaluate the state of our emotions, go back to our childhoods, and philosophize the reasons behind our problems but often the best thing to do is to take action. Today is the first day of the rest of your life. Take physical action. Get moving, get fit! Start taking care of the physical, and watch the strength and clarity of the mind begin to crystallize.
We are physical beings, and even as we carry our soul, our spirit, inside of us, our physical component demands respect and good care. By continuously striving to optimize our physicality through fitness and nutrition, we proactively affect our thinking in exponentially positive ways that inevitably spills over into every aspect of our lives.
Take control of your body and you are taking control of your life!
Best of Health!

What is Metabolism?
Metabolism is the amount of energy (calories) your body burns to maintain itself. Whether you are eating, drinking, sleeping, cleaning etc... your body is constantly burning calories to keep you going.
Metabolism is affected by your body composition. By body composition, I mean the amount of muscle you have versus the amount of fat. Muscle uses more calories to maintain itself than fat. People who are more muscular (and have a lower percentage of body fat) are said to have a higher metabolism than others that are less muscular. For example, let's say you have two people who are the exact same height and weight. One exercises on a regular basis with weights, in addition to aerobic exercise, and has a low percentage of body fat. The other never exercises and has a higher percentage of body fat. The first person who exercises will have a higher metabolism than the second person. What this basically means is that person #1's body will use more calories to sustain itself than person #2.
How can I Increase My Metabolism?
Begin to exercise and stop dieting. If you've never exercised before, make sure you see a doctor before beginning a new exercise program (your problems with metabolism may be the result of a medical condition rather than your diet or lack of exercise).
You can increase your muscle mass by doing some type of resistance work (i.e. lifting weights, using exertubes, rubberbands, dynabands, hand weights etc...). You can also decrease your level of body fat by doing some type of aerobic exercise at least 3 days a week for longer than 20 minutes. By aerobic exercise, I mean an activity (such as walking, jogging, step aerobics, hi/low aerobics, biking, swimming etc...) that will increase your heartrate into the target zone and keep it there for the duration of the exercise session. You also need to eat! - Do not diet, just watch the types of foods you eat. Try to eat a diet that is lower in fat (check the labels on the foods that you buy).
I Never Gained Weight Until I Reached 30, What Happened?
After the age of 30, your body gradually begins to lose it's muscle. If your activity level stays the same and the amount of calories you eat stay the same, you will gain weight because your metabolism has slowed down (you don't have as much muscle as you did in your 20's). If you exercise with weights and do some type of aerobic activity on a regular basis, you probably won't notice much of a change in your metabolism as you age.
How do I Know if I Have Slow Metabolism?
Symptoms of slow metabolism include fatigue, feeling cold, dry skin, constipation, a slow pulse and low blood pressure. These symptoms could be the result of a medical condition rather than low metabolism - MAKE SURE YOU SEE YOUR DOCTOR to rule out any type of medical problem.
Is there any way to Lower Metabolism?
If you eat a very low-calorie diet, your metabolism will slow down in order for your body to survive (your body thinks it is starving).
From dieting, my weight has gone up/down over the years, How has this affected my Metabolism?
If your diet has resulted in a loss of muscle and an increase in your percentage of body fat, then your metabolism has probably slowed down.
Does Genetics Play a Role in Metabolism?
Yes it does. Everyone has a different bone structure and body type (mesomorph, ectomorph, endomorph or combination). It is not realistic to think that everyone can look like the Baywatch beauties or like Arnold Schwartzenagger. However, given your body type and genetic make-up, you can exercise (with weights and aerobically) to look the best that you can.
How Long is My Metabolism Increased After Exercise?
This is a tough question and one that I am frequently asked. Most experts agree that weight training and aerobic exercise do increase metabolism while you are exercising and after you are done. They disagree on how long after exercise your metabolism remains increased.
When you are exercising aerobically, your focus should be on burning calories and working your cardiovascular system. Because it takes more calories to exercise, your metabolism is sped up during the activity.
When you are lifting weights or doing other resistance work, focus on the activity itself which not only burns calories but increases muscle strength, tone and endurance.
The combination of aerobic activity and weight training will result in a body that has more muscle and less fat - so the end result will be a higher metabolism.
